What Exactly is a Managed VMware Solution?
Managed VMware Solutions are VMware environments where you choose the hardware specifications such as CPU, Memory, and SAN.
It also allows you to easily consolidate multiple physical or virtual servers to reduce costs, ease deployments, and manage computing resources more thoroughly than other server hosting platforms.
Our Managed VMware Solutions provide you with the control to add, delete, or configure virtual servers, reconfigure capacity, and manage your environment.
With HPC Host's Managed VMware Solutions the VMware architecture and hardware is maintained and handled by trusted Vmware engineers so you can focus on running your business.
VMware ESX / Virtual Center / vSphere Enterprise Edition
HPC Host provides a VMware environment which does not require any knowledge by the customer to operate. This frees the customer up to run their business instead of requiring the knowledge and/or our hiring of employees to run the VMware server. If the customer requires access to manage any options of VMware please read the section VMware permission access based on your requirements
Virtual Machine / VPS Capacity per Dedicated Server
With our dedicated servers the customer can deploy an unlimited number of Virtual Machines/VPS’s on their dedicated server within the resource limits of the dedicated server hardware ordered. In typically scenarios you can run 4-10 Virtual Machines per CPU core.
The number of virtual machines is dependent on the average load and memory requirements the Virtual Machines / VPS use.
Review the following guide for the typical # of virtual machines that can be hosted on our servers:
1 CPU Dual Core (2 Cores total) – 8 to 20 Virtual Machines
2 CPU Dual Core (4 Cores total) – 16 to 40 Virtual Machines
4 CPU Dual Core (8 Cores total) – 32 to 80 Virtual Machines
4 CPU Quad Core (16 cores total) – 64 to 160 Virtual Machines
The maximum # of virtual machines that can be hosted on any ESX server is 320 Virtual Machines.
Snapshots per Virtual Machine / VPS
Snapshots can be taken for each Virtual Machine / VPS for point in time restoration should something happen to the customers virtual server such as a miss configuration or server update that renders the server inoperable and the customer wants to restore the server to a previous state. Snapshots can be manually run or scheduled on a recurring basis.
Backup per Virtual Machine / VPS
HPC Host provides a backup service to a secondary tape/disk storage system for customers should they need a recurring backup of their Virtual Machine / VPS. This creates a backup of any specified Virtual Machine without any downtime or client installed on the Virtual Machine. The backup is stored on media separated from the ESX storage system. This provides added protection to your server to prevent data loss.
VMotion using Multiple ESX Servers
VMotion option is available to any customer who orders multiple VMware dedicated servers. This allows the customer to move their Virtual Machine / VPS from one VMware dedicated server to another without any downtime. This allows the customer to move servers based on utilization to the VMware dedicated server with resources available and perform maintenance without any downtime for the Virtual Machines.
High Availability using Multiple ESX Servers
The High Availability option is available to any customer who orders multiple VMware dedicated servers and wishes to have the highest uptime available for their Virtual Machines/VPS’s. Depending on how many VMware dedicated servers are ordered the customer can assign anywhere from a 1:1 ratio to 1:10 ratio for High Availability. This means you can have one VMware dedicated server as a hardware failover option for each VMware dedicated server or assign it to a pool of VMware dedicated servers so that if a hardware failure occurs the server assigned to High Availability will take over immediately for the failed VMware dedicated server in the pool.
Clone Virtual Machines / VPS
HPC Host provides cloning of the customers Virtual Machines/VPS’s either manually or by request to support. Installing a guest operating system and applications can be time consuming. Clones are useful when you must deploy many identical virtual machines to a group. In the case of Windows Servers HPC Host can clone the machines with new GUID’s to provide the customer a new windows virtual server with the same configuration as many times as requested. For other Operating Systems cloned, there may be additional steps required after power on such as IP address changes that need to be taken.
HPC Host allows our customers to Upload and Import Virtual Machines/VPS’s created on many platforms both from VMware and 3rd party platforms. The customer can send the Virtual Machine files direct to our datacenter our upload to our FTP site.
We can currently handle the following uploaded image platforms:

Physical to Virtual Conversion
Converting a physical server to a VMware Virtual Machine / VPS requires the customer to run VMware's standalone conversion software on the physical machine. Unfortunately we cannot perform this task for the customer as it requires access to the physical server. If you are interested in converting the machine yourself you can download the tool and find more information at VMware Converter.
VMware Appliance Import
HPC Host supports the importing of VMware Appliances to our VMware dedicated servers. Customers can pick from the large selection of VMware appliances available on the interent or through the VMware appliance repository. We will then import the appliance to the customer’s VMware dedicated server.
KVM over IP through Secure VPN per Virtual Machine / VPS
HPC Host provides the option of access to the VMware console for each Virtual machine through a secure VPN tunnel on a secured private network. The customer can then perform KVM functions through the console in an out of band management setting for each virtual server running. The customer can use the Web GUI or VMware infrastructure client to access the console.
VMware Permission Access based on Customer Requirements
Although HPC Host is happy to manage the VMware functions for the client we understand that some customers require or prefer to manage some aspects of VMware. HPC Host can provide access to many of the VMware functions directly to the client using the Web GUI or VMware infrastructure client through a secure VPN connection. Examples include virtual machine hardware configuration such as memory and CPU utilization, snapshots, Power functions, etc..
Power Management per Virtual Machine / VPS
Power management functions can be accessed through HPC Hosts’s client area for each virtual machine or through the Web GUI or VMware infrastructure client across a secure VPN tunnel. This provides the client the ability to Power On/Off and reset the virtual machine.
We Use Only VMware Virtual Infrastructure Certified Hardware
The hardware used for each VMware dedicated server has been certified for use with VMware Virtual Infrastructure. All hardware is enterprise class to ensure the maximum uptime running VMware. Unlike other hosting companies who use whiteboxes, HPC Host uses only the top manufacturers such as HP, Dell, and Sun.
Private & Public Network
Each VMware dedicated server is provided with both public and private networks so that the customer can employ a firewall solution to protect their virtual servers.
Firewall & Security
HPC Host provides the option of a self managed pfsense firewall for the customers Virtual Machines / VPS or a fully managed Enterprise Firewall Service. Our managed enterprise firewall includes IPS protection, AntiVirus, and Trojan protection among many other features.
Each VMware dedicated server is provided with the highest amount of security in mind. The main network operations of ESX server are physically segregated from the internet for the upmost protection.
SAN Storage Types Available
HPC Host provides the ability to use local storage on each VMware dedicated server. However we highly recommend using our Clustered NetApp storage solution which uses RAID 6 at a cost that rivals local storage options. Read more about it here
HPC Host can also provide Dedicated SAN storage over fibre or iSCSI for the most demanding environments. Inquiry with sales for custom options you are interested in.
VMware DRS - Dynamic Scheduling of System Resources
HPC Host can setup DRS to dynamically allocate IT resources to the highest priority applications and can create rules and policies to prioritize how resources are allocated to virtual machines.
